パレスチナの「首都」ラマラ。この町の滞在もだいぶ長くなってきた。それまで引きこもりがちだったが、やっと町にも慣れてきた。特にホテルを 町の中心部の近くに移って以降は、ホテルの近所にある旧市街地の古い町並みや、新しい町の繁華街をよく歩いた。特に旧市街は整然とした石造りの町並みが特 徴で、とっておきの散歩コースとなった。
　旧市街は半分くらいはキリスト教徒ではないかと思う。旧市街の真ん中には教会がいくつかある。ギリシャ正教の古い教会にカトリックの教会が、それぞれ坂 の上と下 にあった。ギリシャ正教の教会のご近所はイスラムのモスクだ。異教徒たちが気を使いながら共存するのが、ラマラ旧市街だ。そのためか、人々はオープンで優 しかった。教会を眺めていると、招じ入れて見せてくれたり、お店の前では店主の一家が写真に納まってくれたり。
　ラマラは小さい町だが、ときに映画祭や音楽祭も開かれる。特にモーツアルト音楽祭で聴いたレクイエムは心をゆすぶられる演奏だった。こうした普通な生活 が邪魔されずに続くような安定した政治体制が望まれる。

    .Ramallah is the virtual capital of Palestine.  As I was staying long here, I got accustomed to the town, and started to take a walk in the city.  Particularly, I like to walk in Old Ramallah,  an old town with stone buildings, or in the busy city center of modern Ramallah.  Old Ramallah is a mixture of Islamic and Christian populations.  There are a Greek Orthodox Church and a Catholic Church at the both ends of a slope in Old Ramallah.  There is also a mosque near the Orthodox Church, too.  Old Ramallah is a place with peoples with different religion live together.  People are nice and gentle there.  When I was looking at church buildings, I was often invited inside.
    Ramallah is not a big city.   But sometimes a movie festival or even a musical festival take place.  Mozart's Requiem heard at the occasion of Mozart Music Festival was beautiful.  I was hoping that the political situation stabilizes so that the daily life like this could be enjoyed uninterruptedly.
