南北に細長いベトナムのほぼ中央にダナン市はある。１６世紀までは、少 し南にあるホイアンが交易の中心地で、ダナンは小さい港町にすぎなかった。ところが、ヨーロッパか ら来る船が大型化する一方、ホイアンは川砂がたまって航海がしにくくなってくると、深い海に恵まれたダナン港が栄えるようになった。１８世紀のことだ。 １９世紀末にフランスがインドシナ半島を統治下におき、２０世紀初頭からダナン市はベトナム中部の主要な都市として町づくりがなされることとなった。だか ら今でもダナンにはフランス風の建物が少なくない。
　ダナンは、ハノイとホーチミンからそれぞれ１千 キロほどのところに立地し、中部ベトナムの玄関口のような都市でもある。美しい海と長く白いビーチ、緑豊かな丘陵地に恵まれ、周辺にはそれぞれ世界遺産に 指定されているフエが北に、ホイアンが南にあることから、最近は世界遺産ロードと呼んで観光プロモーションをしている。ダナンにはフラマ・リゾートといっ て、この地域のビーチリゾートの草分け的なおしゃれなリゾート・ホテルもある。日本人観光客もいないわけではないがそれほどでもない。のんびりとビーチや 古都をたのしむヴァカンスには最適です。

    Danang is located at the middle point in the long strip of Vietnam.  Up to the 16th century, the center of the region was Hoi An to the south, but as the ships became bigger and Hoi An was suffering from sedimentation in the river, gradually Danang took over as the main port in Central Vietnam in 18th century.  In 19th century, French took the control of the region and the city of Danang was built by the French.  There are thus French architecture in Danang today.
     Danang is about 1,000 km from Ho Chi MInh and Hanoi, and is a gateway in Central Vietnam.  With long and beautiful beaches, hills covered with greenery and historical heritage nearby, such as Hoi An in the south and Hue in the north,  Danang is promoting tourism with the phrase of "World Heritage Road".  There is also a beach resort in Danang g, this is an ideal place for a week's vacation.
