カンボジアには何度もいったが、いつもバンコクから飛行機でプノンペンかシムリアップに到着と いうパターン。今回は、国境の町ポイペットに用事があったので、初めて陸路でいった。バンコ クの北ターミナルというバスターミナルで長距離バスに乗って、タイ側の国境の町アランヤプラテートにいった。町外れのバスターミナルにはトクトクが溜まっているから、交渉して国 境まで行ってもらう。タイ側の国境にはトラックやトレーラーが列をなしている。タイから雑貨や商品などの輸出貨物を運んでいるのだろう。
　国境をこえてカンボジア側がポイペットの町だ。こちらはトラックよりは荷車やオートバイが多くて牧歌的だ。タイではカジノは禁止されているが、カンボジ アでは合法的、というよりも禁じる法律が整備されていない。だから国境にはカジノを備えて高級ホテルがいくつもある。そういうところにはあまり用事はなの で、適当な安宿を見つけてチェックインして町にくりだしたらもう夕方だった。暮れなずむ国境の町は、人間的でほっとする。

     I went to Cambodia many a time, but I always flew from Bangkok to Phnom Penh or to Siem Reap.  This time, I had a little thing to do at Poipet, the border town, I took the land route for the first time.  From Bankok I took a long-distance bus to Aranyapratet, the Thai border town, then crossed the land border.  On the Thai side were many trucks and trailors that were probably caryying daily consumables for export.  
    On the Cambodian side is Poipet, which was a bustling town.  There are more push carts and motorcycle this side of the border.  Also, there are not a few casino hotels.  Casinos are prohibited in Thailand, but in Cambodia they are not becaruse there are no law prohibiting them.  So many Thais come to the Cambodian border town to gamble.  I have nothing to do with gampling so I stayed away from these casinos, and stayed in a homely inn.  When I wnet out to town, it was starting to dusk.  This town in twilight is humane and relieving.
