カンボジアが胸を張って世界に誇れるもの、それが世界遺産にも登録されているアンコール遺跡である。その代表はアンコールワットであるが、実はアンコール遺跡と一口にいうが、それは数百の遺跡の集合体なのである。アンコールワットが建造された13世紀初頭は、アンコール王朝がアジアで勢力を誇った時期とも重なる。
　アンコール遺跡を目の前にして立つと、その巨大さ、空に向かって鳥が羽根を広げたような美しい対称形のフォルム、無限とも思える手彫りのレリーフに圧倒される。その景観や壮大にして堂々としている。人類が築き上げた稀に見る構造物である。
　壮大な遺跡を前にして、それにカメラを向けないことは不可能とも思えるし、実際には私もかなりのコマを遺跡の写真に費やしている。しかし、ぶらパチ写真では主題は遺跡ではなく、そこに生きる人々である。遺跡を見に来た人たち、遺跡を生活に糧にして、商売をする人たち、観光客がアンコール訪問の母都市とするシムリアップの人々。カメラを遺跡と共に生きる人々に向けると、どのような姿がみえてくるのだろうか。

The Angkor Ruins are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and are the pride of Cambodia. The most famous of which is the Angkor Wat. In reality, the Angkor Ruins are not a single temple, but is a collection of hundreds of historical ruins. The period of construction of the Angkor Wat in the early part of 13th Century coincides with an era when the Angkor Empire had a extensive influence in Asia.
Standing face to face to the Angkor ruins, one feels deeply moved by the magnitude of its architecture, beautiful symmetric forms resembling those of birds with wings wide open, endless bas relief carvings. The majestic man-made landscape is even awesome and of heavenly magnitude.
It is literally impossible not to point the camera to the ruins once you are in from of them, and to confess, I took a number of cuts of the magnificent architecture. But the theme of Trot 'n Shoot Photography here is not the ruins, but the people living with them. I took photos of people who come here to see the ruins, utilize them for their livelihood by selling things to tourists and collecting fees at statues, and people in Siem Reap serving as the mother city for Angkor tourism. What would it seem like, if the camera is pointed to those people living closely with the ruins.
