女優の星野知子さんの著書に、「パリと7つの美術館」（集英社新書）があります。私はパリといえばルーブルとオルセーくらいしかいったこと がないのですが、星野さんの本には聞いたことのないような小さい美術館が紹介されています。美術館が絵や工芸を見る場所というのは当たり前のことですが、 星野さんの本を読んでいると、「あれ、そればかりではないかもしれない」と思いました。なんというか、文化の香りの漂う空間でのんびりと過ごす、そんな楽 しみ方もあるのではないか、と。
　バンコク 滞在も長くなってきましたので、そんなことを考えながらバンコクの博物館めぐりをしてみました。調べてみるとバンコクには個性的な博物館が多いのです。国 立博物館はタイで最大・最高の博物館ですが、それ以外にも古い民家を集めて民芸品をおいた博物館、名士の邸宅を保全したもの、王家にゆかりのある品物を集 めたもの、などなど。入場料は５０〜１００バーツ（１３０〜２５０円くらい）、それで文化の香りの漂う空間を使い放題。これってお得なのではないでしょう か。

    I read  a book entitled "Paris and Seven Art Museums" written by a Japanese actress, Tomoko Hoshino, which deals with small and unfamiliar museums in Paris.  Museums are a place to see paintings and crafts, so they say.  Reading this book I realized that museum may not just be that.  Museums are a place where you could spend endless hours in cultural and artistic space.
    As I have been staying in Bangkok for long, I hit for museums in such a mood.  Checking on guide books, there are quite a few museums in Bangkok.  Besides the National Museum which is the biggest and utmost museum in Thailand, there are old houses with traditional tools and crafts, home of a celebrity, a royal palace etc.  The admission fee may be around 50 to 100 Thailand Bahts, or a few dollars, and for this money the cultural and artistic space is for you to spend endless hours there.  Isn't this a good deal?
