もう5年ほど前にｶﾝﾎﾞｼﾞｱの仕事をしていたから、そのころはプノンペンをよく歩いてい た。最近はその仕事も終わってしまったので、あまり再訪の機会がなかったのだが、この3月にプノンペンにしばらくぶりに行った。あまりゆっくりと町を歩く時間はなかったので、目標を絞ってセントラル・マーケットを歩くことにした。ホテルもその 近くに取った。市場は人々の日常の顔が見られるから、ぼくは市場歩きが好きだ。
    もうひとつ、今回の市場歩きには目的があった。それはクメール（カンボジア）スイーツを食べることだ。カンボジアのスイーツというのは、それだけで一冊の 本がかけちゃうくらいの種類があるらしい。そういえば、そういう本を以前読んだことがあるな。「カンボジアは誘う」という本で、著者は平野久美子さんとい う人。ふとそんなことを思い出したら、もう食べたくなってしまった。それで市場に突撃、単純だなぁ行動が。

     About 5 years ago, when I had a project in Cambodia, I often went out to walk in the streets of Phnom Penh.  Now that the project is happily complete, I seldom had a chance to come back there..  Last March, I had a long awaited chance.  As the time was short, I decided to focus on the Central Market.  The market is the place where the daily life of the people are to be seen.   I like to walk in the market for that reason.
    Yet there is another purpose of my visit to the market.  That is, to try some of the Khmer sweets.  The Khmer sweets is so diverse that there ia a book written about it.  I read such a book in Japanese.  I thought about it, and then immediately I set out for a walk.  Was it a little too direct?
