I like markets very much since long time ago. Markets are diverse - a big market, or a small market; a new one, or an old one; food market, vegetable or fish market; garment market or consumable market. In every place I go, I visit the market in an early stage.
Why do I like markets? It is difficult to explain, but one thing that can be said - markets are lively. Sellers are eager to sell out the things. Calling out loud the sale of the day is a common place sight. Buyers are anxious to buy the things for dinner or for the shops they run at the lowest price possible. There is always a good tension between the seller and buyer, and conversation between them releases the tension. This is ever so interesting to see.
Cambodia is one of the world's least developed country, but the markets are full of life and vitality. There are nearly 10 markets in Phnom Penh, large or small. Prices are low - a pair of Levy jeans is sold for 6 dollars, a Gap shirt for 2 dollars. A basketful of fruits are only for a few dollars.
The expression of the people who completed the day's shopping are proud. Similarly the seller selling out the days goods are happy and bright. I saw the pleasure of life in the markets of Cambodia.
