ユーラシア(Eurasia)はヨーロッパとアジアの合成語である。カザフスタンはユーラシアの国を標榜する。その位置はちょうどユーラシア大陸の中央だ。
カザフスタン共和国の首都・アスタナで一年余りを過ごした。カザフスタンは白系ロシア人とトルコ系のカザフ人がほぼ４０％ずつと拮抗する。カザフスタンはヨーロッパとアジアの両面を持つ国だ。
カザフスタンは気温差の大きい大陸性気候だ。長く厳しい冬の後にやってくる夏はからりと暑く、短い。
5月の初め、急速に気温が上り、ある日どこからか突然、夏がやってくる。じきに気温は３０度に達し、人々は短い夏を楽しむ。
そして9月になると、早々に夏はいずこかへ去っていく。
The word "Eurasia" is coined from two words - Europe and Asia. Kazakhstan calls itself a Eurasian country. The position of the republic is right in the center of the Eurasian Continent.
I spent about a year in the capital city, Astana. The population of Kazakhstan is 40% Russian, and 40% Kazakh. The Kazakh is of turkish origin. Kazakhstan has thus both European and Asian characteristics.
The weather in Kazakhstan is typically continental. The summer that comes after a long and severe winter is dry and hot.
In early May, the temperature goes up rapidly, and the summer arrives all of a sudden. The temperature soon reaches 30 degrees Centigrade, and people enjoy the short summer as much as they could.
In later September, the summer in Kazakhstan sets off to nowhere.
